EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) - In today's national calendar we celebrate National Stay Out of the Sun Day. It falls on July 3 every year. It encourages everyone to give our skin a break and keep it out of the hot sun. July is a prime time to be outdoors, sunbathing, gardening, or maybe just hanging out. It is also imperative we protect our skin from the harmful UV rays that can cause skin cancer. Here are some ways to protect yourself from the sun according to the American Cancer Society: Simply staying in the shade, especially during midday hours, is one of the best ways to limit your UV exposure from sunlight. Protect your skin with clothing that covers your arms and legs. Wear a wide-brimmed hat to protect your head, face, and neck. Wear sunglasses that block UV rays to protect your eyes and the skin around them. Use sunscreen with at least SPF 30 to help protect skin that isn’t covered with clothing. So, make sure to observe this national day by staying indoors, going to the movies, going to the gym, visiting your local library, or even a museum. As long as you stay out of the sun.
