CONNELLY SPRINGS, N.C. – A motorcyclist died after a head-on collision with a cargo van in Burke County, according to the North Carolina State Highway Patrol. It happened on Monday afternoon around 6:10 p.m. on NC 18 near Miller Bridge Road in Connelly Springs. The highway patrol said a motorcyclist, traveling north on NC 18, crossed the middle line and collided head-on with a southbound 2019 Chevrolet Express cargo van. The crash caused the motorcycle to catch on fire. The motorcyclist, whose identity was not immediately released, died at the scene. The van driver, 31-year-old Christopher Lee Wayne Richard, was not injured. Excessive speed was a contributing factor in the crash, the highway patrol said. No charges are expected to be filed.
