STATESVILLE, N.C. – A Statesville mother is facing a felony charge for child abuse after her two-year-old nearly died from an overdose on Monday, according to the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office.
On July 1st, 31-year-old Brittany Dawn Riley brought her child to the emergency room after finding him unresponsive.
Medical personnel determined that the child was suffering from an overdose and administered Narcan, the sheriff’s office said. They were able to get the child into stable condition before he was transported to a children’s hospital for further evaluation.
Investigators determined that Riley was using illegal narcotics, including fentanyl and methamphetamine, earlier in the day.
As a result, Riley was arrested and charged with felony child abuse. She was transported to the Iredell County Detention Center and received a $100,000 secured bond.
The child is expected to make a full recovery.
