NORTH DAKOTA (KXNET) — This week, we brought you the story of the president's idea to crack down on companies that aren't doing more to protect workers from the punishing summer heat. President Biden's proposed rule would require companies to identify heat hazards and come up with emergency response plans to protect workers from heat illness. Under the OSHA proposal, more protection would kick in when the heat index is at least 90 degrees. Employers would also have to give workers at least a 15-minute break every two hours. Things to do around town: July 1-7 Senator Kevin Cramer says the plan is a desperate attempt by Democrats when several other of their policies have failed. "They presume that employers and industry don't already have an incentive to keep their workers safe. I just reject that notion," Sen. Cramer said. "I think the marketplace itself works out. there's no incentive for an employer to cause his people to be so uncomfortable they can't work or become ill, or God forbid lose their life from heat stroke, that's just not sensical." The idea was proposed by Sen. Alex Padilla from California, the rule would also require companies to provide access to shade and adequate hydration. Cramer says companies in North Dakota that work outside already do that. Close Thanks for signing up! Watch for us in your inbox. Subscribe Now Today's Top Stories SIGN UP NOW
