BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KGET) -- A man who was 17 when arrested in a deadly shooting that occurred on New Year's Eve 2020 is facing trial as an adult on murder and robbery charges. Vincent Xavier Hines, 21, is scheduled for trial next week. A courtroom has not yet been assigned; delays are possible. Buck Owens’ Crystal Palace going on sale Hines is charged in the shooting death of Emmanuel Arechiga, 18, in south Bakersfield. Hines was housed in Juvenile Hall until it was determined he would be tried as an adult earlier this year. Co-defendant Anthony Daniel, 22, was found guilty of murder and other charges in 2022 and sentenced to 69 years to life in prison. Arechiga’s girlfriend told investigators they drove to Morin Court on Dec. 31, 2020, to buy a gun. They were robbed at gunpoint instead. She said Arechiga obeyed the robbers. He held up his hands and said, “Don’t shoot, don’t shoot," she told investigators. The robbers snatched a wallet off Arechiga’s lap and ran, according to court filings. Arechiga’s girlfriend drove to Wilson Park and called 911. Arechiga was declared dead at the scene. A witness saw and surveillance camera captured Hines running from the crime scene, according to the filings. Investigators located evidence indicating he set up the robbery, the filings say.
