CHARLOTTE, N.C. – (NEWSLETTER) – With the ever-increasing number of passengers utilizing CLT, the Airport is facing unprecedented activity within the Airport Premises. This substantial growth highlights the need for CLT to continually evolve and adopt its approach to maintaining a high level of safety and security for those who use and work at the Airport. Airports remain an attractive target for terrorists and criminal activities due to high concentrations of people and the significant impact any disruptions can have on the United States National  System. Federal, State, and local law enforcement agencies continue to work with and encourage airport owners and operators to evaluate and update policies and procedures to ensure safe and secure facilities and operations. To promote safety and security in this dynamic environment, North Carolina criminalizes both trespassing and disorderly conduct specifically on airport property. In both cases, the statutory language references allowing only those “with authorization” or with “necessary business” to be on the premises. This policy defines who has authorization or necessary business to be on the Airport Premises. Public areas of airports are vulnerable to persistent threats on a daily basis. These threats can be criminal and/or terrorist-related. Adversaries employ evolving tactics including, but not limited to, blending in with the civilian public to carry out their observations of activity trends and response procedures. Additionally, allowing people without a Business Purpose to remain on the Airport Premises increases congestion and circulation concerns, creating potential barriers to providing a safe environment.
