WELLSTON, Okla. (KFOR) — A former substitute teacher at Wellston Public Schools is now facing a civil lawsuit for allegedly sexually assaulting a student. Emma Delaney Hancock was already facing five criminal charges, with court documents showing the alleged abuse against the 15-year-old that lasted for months. Now, the family of the victim has filed a civil lawsuit as well. PREVIOUS COVERAGE: Parent of alleged victim speaks out "It's still overwhelming for everyone involved," the parent of the alleged victim said. For one family, it has been nearly two years of living with a nightmare. Their 15-year-old was allegedly taken advantage of sexually by his teacher at Wellston High School. "She's clearly not concerned about the consequences of her actions or the trauma it has caused these children," the parent said. Last April, Emma Delaney Hancock was charged with three counts of soliciting to a minor, and two counts of lewd or indecent acts with a child under 16. A new civil lawsuit filed last week gives even more graphic details about what allegedly went on for months. In the lawsuit, it claims that another student confronted Hancock about it while it was going on, and after admitting to the student it was true, Hancock said she wasn't concerned saying, "because they were not going to get caught." Hancock pleaded not guilty to all five counts, but the victim's family worries Hancock's connections in the town of Wellston could play a factor in what happens with the case. "It makes me wonder if anyone else under these circumstances would have been allowed to set up if their father wasn't the town mayor or their husband wasn't the chief of police," the parent said. We reached out to Wellston Public Schools and the lawyer of Emma Delaney Hancock but never heard back. Hancock is set to stand trial October 21.
