SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) - Months of planning go into the Big Bay Boom. And in the days leading up to the fireworks show, it's all hands on deck -- or should we say, all hands on the barges. There are four barges, each carrying about 1,000 fireworks. The man at the helm of it all is Pyro Show Producer Sam Bruggema with Pyro Spectaculars. He's no stranger to fireworks and has been producing them for 45 years. He produced the first-ever Big Bay Boom, then a new company was brought in, before he was brought back to produce the largest fireworks show on the West Coast. California to implement financial literacy requirement for high school students “San Diego is the best place on Earth to be celebrating independence day," Bruggema said. Bruggema has planned where each firework will go on each of the barges, leaving no detail untouched, and precision is key. “You don’t get a second take, per se," he said. “Our firing system will put this in the sky where I prescribe it to be in the music," he added. This year's nearly 18-minute show will feature new music. With about 1,000 fireworks on each barge, over the four barges there's an estimated 4,000 fireworks that will light up the San Diego skyline. How to get 40 cents off gas at Circle K this week "You can oversaturate the sky and you can under saturate the sky so its finding that happy medium," he added. He said this year will have a bigger and more precise grand finale than before. “It's America, its freedom, our independence is why we do this," he said. He said the best part of the show is seeing and hearing how the other people are enjoying it. Bruggema said the best place, in his opinion, to see the fireworks is from Coronado. Well, maybe other than the barge where he will be setting them off.
