NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — State troopers, New Orleans police and Kenner PD officers gathered along the bank of Bayou St. John Tuesday night after a police car crashed into the water. A short time later, only the Kenner officers remained at the scene because it was their department's car that was in the bayou. According to the Kenner Police Department, around 10:45 Tuesday night, officers responded to a shoplifting call from a business in the 800 block of West Esplanade Avenue. Police describe the shoplifting suspects as two women who left the scene in a gold, four door Honda SUV. Same suspect in 3 armed robberies at St. Tammany Parish ATMs Moments later, a Kenner officer spotted the car taking an eastbound ramp on I-10 toward New Orleans and followed it. The chase ended when the officer, according to police, lost control of his car and crashed into Bayou St. John near the intersection of Esplanade Avenue and Moss Street. Kenner police say nobody was hurt and the suspects got away.
