NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — City of New Orleans leaders announced that emergency cooling centers have been opened as high temperatures continue in the city. In a news release, city officials said the National Weather Service is predicting "feels like" temperatures of 108 degrees to 118 degrees in the New Orleans area between July 1 and July 3. Jefferson Parish recycling drop-off sites to change hours, East Bank location City officials said residents can find places with free, indoor air conditioning through the interactive NOLA Ready Heat Relief Map. Residents can cool off at designated cooling centers throughout the city during the daytime from July 1 through July 3: Louisiana SPCA at 1700 Mardi Gras Blvd. 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. Robert E Smith Library at 6301 Canal St. 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Mid-City Library at 4140 Canal St. 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Nix Library at 1401 S. Carrollton Ave. 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Children's Resource Center Library at 913 Napoleon Ave. 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. City Dennis Hubbell Library at 725 Pelican Ave. 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Algiers Regional Library at 3014 Holiday Drive 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Norman Mayer Library at 3001 Gentilly Blvd. 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Alvar Library at 913 Alvar St. 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. East New Orleans Regional Library at 5641 Read Blvd. 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. MLK Jr. Library at 1611 Fats Domino Ave. 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Rosenwald Annex Senior Building at 1120 S. Claiborne Ave. 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Desire-Florida Multi-Purpose Rec Center at 3250 Industry St. 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Xavier University of Louisiana Convocation Center at 7900 Stroelitz St. 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Main Library at 219 Loyola Ave. 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Central City Library at 2020 Jackson Ave. 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Those who are unhoused can cool off at the following locations: Ozanam Inn shelter at 2239 Poydras St. The New Orleans Mission shelter at 1130 Oreatha Castle Haley Blvd. Low Barrier Shelter at 1530 Gravier St. Salvation Army shelter at 4526 S. Claiborne Ave. Cool off at these Greater New Orleans pools, splash pads, spray parks The following indoor pools will be open to residents from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.: Treme Pool at 900 N. Villere St. Joe Brown Pool at 5602 Read Blvd. Gert Town Pool at 3411 Broadway St. Sanchez Center Pool at 1616 Fats Domino Ave. The following outdoor pools will also be open to residents from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m.: Stallings Gentilly Pool at 2700 Lapeyrouse St. Lyons Pool at 624 Louisiana Ave. Stallings St. Claude Pool at 4300 St. Claude Ave. Sampson Pool at 3211 Treasure St. Whitney Young Pool at 6500 Magazine St. St. Bernard Pool at 1500 LaFreniere St. Rosenwald Pool at 1120 S. Broad St. City leaders also advised residents to take proper safety measures to prevent heat-related illnesses and emergencies. Residents were provided with the following tips: Stay indoors during the hottest parts of the day. Perform outdoor activities early in the morning or late in the evening if possible. Wear light, loose-fitting clothes. Stay hydrated. Never leave children or pets in an unattended car.
