IMPD update on west side police shooting INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A male is in critical condition after a police shooting on the southwest side, where officials reported he allegedly pointed a firearm at officers. At 11:33 a.m., Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to a residential neighborhood in the 5100 block of West Vermont Street on a report of a person shot, just three miles southwest of Speedway. IMPD said they arrived and located a male who pointed it at officers, which led to the shooting. Officials did not say if the male with the gun fired at police. IMPD Public Information Officer William Young informed News 8 that Wayne Township medics were already at the scene before the police shooting occurred. They were initially there to assist with a person who had been shot and subsequently aided officers in providing medical assistance to the male who was shot by police The male was transported to the hospital in critical condition. IMPD did not give an update on the first person who was shot. In a social media post, IMPD said no officers were injured. Young stated West Vermont Street between Lynhurst and Cossell Drive will be closed due to an ongoing police investigation. Authorities are advising the public to steer clear of the area.
