CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) — A 37-year-old man has been charged with second-degree murder after a woman was found with stab wounds in her Chesterfield County home and later died. According to the Chesterfield County Police Department, at around 8:20 p.m. on Sunday, June 30, officers were called to the 6400 block of Kings Crest Court for a disturbance. When the officers arrived, they found 48-year-old Kelli S. Patel inside her home with multiple stab wounds. She was taken to a local hospital, where police said she died due to her injuries. According to police, 37-year-old Noell J. Brandon was there when authorities arrived and was arrested and charged with second degree murder. Kareem Elias, who lives nearby, said the murder is surprising but he won't allow the incident to scare him. “Our awareness will definitely elevate," Elias said. "We'll be on guard a little bit more, but it wouldn't necessarily be a fear, anxiety type of thing.” According to police, Patel owned the home and rented a room to Brandon and a family member of his. Elias said he hopes nothing like this will happen again. "The biggest thing would just be to pray about it," Elias said. "If you're feeling any type of negative emotions, I think that that prayer would be the first to try to cast out any negative emotions like that." Chesterfield Police is still investigating the homicide and ask anyone with information to contact them at 804-748-1251.
