HENRICO COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) -- Construction efforts continue on what Henrico County is calling its "Bungalow City Firehouse 23," located on Nine Mile Road in the Highland Springs area of the county. According to a June 29 Facebook post from the county, this new fire station -- located at 5619 Nine Mile Road -- remains on schedule to make its grand opening in early 2025. Once it opens, Bungalow City Firehouse 23 will serve the Highland Springs area, as well as other parts of eastern Henrico. Its roofing and brick facade are now in place, as drone footage provided by the county shows. The firehouse has many planned features, including three drive-thru apparatus bays -- visible in the first of the photos shown below. There will also be individual bunk rooms, a dining space, areas for both training and administrative functions, an exercise space and group toilet/shower rooms, among other planned spaces. There will also be both public and staff restrooms. According to the county, this firehouse -- as well as the Staples Mill Firehouse 20 that opened in January 2023 -- were both funded through a 2016 bond referendum, which was approved by voters.
