SHELBURNE, Vt. (WCAX) - More affordable housing is on the way for Shelburne.Monday, the Champlain Housing Trust announced plans to build its third neighborhood in Shelburne, called Bay Ridge. The $50 million project would renovate and add to the former Harbor Place location on Shelburne Road, as well as repaving the road to bring 94 homes for rent or sale.Shelburne Town Manager Matt Lawless says housing is expensive and hard to come by, hindering the town’s growth.“It’s tough, it’s tough. It’s harder and harder for new residents and workers, folks who are trying to age in place or young families starting up. It’s hard to find a spot. I experienced that myself moving to the area,” Lawless said. The Champlain Housing Trust says it plans for rent to be capped at about one-third of residents’ income. The homes will be ready for residents by May 2025.
