FRANKFORT, Ky. (WTVQ) — Governor Andy Beshear is responding to rumors of a potential presidential run if President Joe Biden were to remove himself from the democratic ticket. After last week’s debate, some critics have called into question the president’s fitness for office. Beshear’s name has been on the short list of possible replacements for President Biden as the presumptive democratic nominee in November’s election after what many consider to be a poor showing in last week’s debate against former president Donald Trump. “It’s flattering when people mention your name, something like that, but I think it’s a reflection of all the good things going on in Kentucky as compared to the rest of the country. The temperature has been turned down here,” said Governor Andy Beshear. Beshear has quickly made a name for himself on the national stage as one of the few governors who have garnered bipartisan support, especially with his accomplishments in dealing with the state’s economy. “Democrats and Republicans all excited about the jobs we’re creating, the investment that we’re seeing record low unemployment, the record low recidivism, decreases in our overdose deaths, those are all really good things,” he adds. The governor also addressing last week’s debate, acknowledging it was a rough night for the president. “My hope is that there’s more information forthcoming that will speak to the American people and the leaders around the country,” added the governor. When asked directly if he would consider a run for president, Beshear says he would not consider it as long as President Biden remains on the ticket. “The president says he’s staying in and I believe him,” said Beshear. The Democratic National Convention takes place from August 19th through August 22nd. Categories: Featured, Local News, News Tags: Beshear, Biden, President Biden, presidential run
