FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) - The first half of 2024 is in the books and we are currently on pace for the second warmest year ever in Fort Wayne's history. Since 1897, only one year has had a warmer first six months. Drought concerns rising from hotter and drier pattern Our average temperature from January to June sits at 50.5 degrees, which places only behind the year 2012 so far. We will have to watch and see if we keep this up through the rest of the year. Fort Wayne is heading toward its second warmest year ever here in 2024. Every single month of the year has been above average in the temperature department. January was the coolest month though, as we saw our big arctic air outbreak in the middle of the month. January was the 48th warmest, but February was then the 3rd warmest ever in Fort Wayne's history. We have also finished in the top 15 for the remaining months; March was the 7th warmest, April was the 12th warmest, May was the 10th warmest, and June was the 13th warmest. The first six months of the year have all been above average. Five out of six months have ranked in the top 15 warmest. The year also currently stands as the 14th wettest ever, with our six month precipitation total of 23.47 inches. This is over three inches above our average. 2024 is currently on pace for the 14th wettest year in Fort Wayne's history. Precipitation has been more variable, with three months coming in below average. February was the 23rd driest, while May was the 37th wettest, as the month just barely ended up below average. June was also the 38th driest. In terms of above average months, January was the 20th wettest and March was the 25th wettest. April then we saw our wettest April ever in Fort Wayne's history! Three out of six months have been above average in terms of precipitation, including our wettest April ever, so far in 2024. From cold to heat, snow to storms, it has been quite the first six months of 2024 and we'll look forward to more in the second half.
