May Pang, John Lennon’s companion and lover during his “Lost Weekend” era, will showcase her candid photos of Lennon at a special three-day, free exhibition at Winkel Gallery in Baltimore from July 26 through July 28. Pang will be at the show to meet and greet attendees. “The Lost Weekend: The Photography of May Pang” coincides with the digital release of the feature film documentary of the same name. John Lennon. Photo by May Pang. The “Lost Weekend” lasted for 18 months from late 1973 through 1975. Pang took candid photos of Lennon during this highly creative time for him. During this time, he collaborated with rock legends Elton John, David Bowie, Harry Nilsson, Mick Jagger, and Ringo Starr, among others. Lennon had his most commercially productive period post-Beatles, with the albums “Mind Games,” “Rock and Roll,” and “Walls and Bridges,” which included his only #1 Hit Single, “Whatever Gets You Through the Night.” The song “Surprise, Surprise (Sweet Bird of Paradox)” was written about Pang. The “Lost Weekend” saw Lennon reconnect with other family and friends, at the encouragement of Pang. He reunited with Paul McCartney and engaged in what must have been a magical jam session with him. Pang arranged a reunion between Lennon and his first son, Julian Lennon, John’s child with Cynthia Lennon, his first wife. It was the first time Julian visited his father in nearly three years. Julian Lennon is a musician in his own right, and it is one of Pang’s photos of Julian that graces the cover of his latest album, entitled “Jude.” During this time, Lennon produced Harry Nilsson’s album “Pussy Cats.”  John Lennon. Other highlights include the only photograph that exists of John Lennon signing the contract to dissolve the Beatles, and one of the last known photos of Lennon and McCartney together from March 29, 1974. Neither photograph has been available to the public until now. The exhibition is free, and photographs will be available for purchase for the three days of the exhibition only. Hours of the exhibition are as follows: Friday, July 26: 3 p.m. – 8 p.m. Saturday, July 27: 11 a.m. – 6 p.m. Sunday, July 28: 12 p.m. – 5 p.m. Winkel Gallery is located at 1715 Aliceanna Street, Baltimore, MD.
