Lake County Engineer James R. Gills recently announced that the LAK-Bishop Road Bridge project has begun in Willoughby Hills. Construction is to be completed by the end of 2024, according to the city. Located approximately mid-way between Route 6 and White Road, south of Evergreen Avenue, the bridge spans the Euclid Creek North Tributary. The demolition of the bridge began the week of June 17, requiring all traffic to follow the posted detour. The project was awarded to J.D. Williamson Construction Co., of Tallmadge. The work covered by the plans includes the replacement of the existing concrete slab bridge with a new concrete slab bridge, replacement of approach pavement, drainage, drive aprons for properties adjacent to the bridge, traffic control and a new guardrail. Last year, the Lake County commissioners unanimously adopted resolutions in moving several infrastructure projects forward, including the Bishop Road project and the Booth Road bridge replacement. According to Gills, agreements with the Ohio Department of Transportation for the projects were well-received through County Engineers Association of Ohio as part of the extra money the state received through the Build Back Better Plan. The overall project cost for the Bishop Road bridge project, a design-build project, has been estimated at $900,000. “This is an 80-20 percent reimbursement and these bridges must be done, under contract, by this year, so we are moving rapidly on these,” Gills said. The Booth Road complete bridge replacement, located between Kirtland-Chardon Road and Eagle Road in Kirtland, is estimated at $315,000, Gills confirmed. Additionally, United Survey continues with its 2024 sewer rehabilitation in Willoughby Hills. Asphalt repairs also continue throughout the city.
