Dorian Jones has been turning heads and receiving collegiate offers since his first game for Richmond Heights in the 2021-22 season. After receiving over 25 offers, Jones made his college commitment on July 1 when he selected Ohio State over Michigan, Rutgers and Missouri as his final four schools. Jones, a three-time state champion with the Spartans, had Ohio State as a front-runner since his freshman campaign. He was excited to make it official. “The process as a whole has been a lot of fun,” Jones said. “I went on a couple of visits, I saw a lot of different things at different programs. I learned a lot through the process. The way Ohio State treated not just me but my family as well was a huge part of the process. Jake Diebler has been recruiting me while he was still an assistant coach all the way back since my freshman season. Now as the head coach, he showed faith in me all the way, talking about what I need to work on and getting things ready for the next level.” He was named The News-Herald Clark Kellogg Player of the Year winner after the 2022-23 season, when he set the record for most 3-point field goals in a state title game with seven against Convoy Crestview. Jones can impact the game inside and out and hangs his hat on defense. Jones views his commitment as a launching point for this season. The Spartans are attempting to become the first team in Ohio to win four straight state championships. “It’s just a new chapter for me,” Jones said. “Now I need to get ready for college, so there’s not a weight lifted off of my shoulders. Really, it’s more like a new challenge. But it’s nothing I can’t handle. Now I need to get in the weight room and get ready for when my name is called this season for Richmond Heights.” Jones is the first of three Spartans seniors who hold D-I offers, along with De’Erick Barber and Demarris Winters. They have been starters for the past two seasons and have been working together to improve their games. Jones is as excited to see where his teammates will end up on their recruitment trails. “With De’Erick, I remember coming up to the gym for the first workout,” Jones said. “I didn’t know him but we got to talking and quickly formed that brotherhood. He asked me to play with him in AAU and that’s how we’ve been ever since. Demarris and I have been together since we were kids, his dad and my grandma have been coaching together for 20-plus years and it’s been a quick vibe for the both of us playing together.”
