ST. JOHNSBURY, Vt. (WCAX) - A Vermont man is facing charges after police say he drove the wrong way on Interstate 91.Around 8 p.m. on Sunday, Vermont State Police responded to a report of a car driving southbound in northbound lanes on I-91 in St. Johnsbury.Police say they turned on their lights and sirens when they approached the car near Exit 21, but the suspect continued driving south at high speed.They say the responding trooper was forced to merge from the left lane into the right lane to avoid a head-on collision with the driver, whose car came within feet of hitting the police cruiser.As the driver continued south, he merged onto the Exit 21 north on-ramp, where he began driving west in the eastbound lane of Route 2. Responding troopers were able to stop the car on the Route 2/I-91 overpass.The driver was identified as David Capaccioli, 56, of Plainfield.Troopers say they observed signs of impairment and took Capaccioli into custody.He is due in court on July 8.
