WINOOSKI, Vt. (WCAX) - Officials in the city of Winooski are looking to the public to help them conduct more community projects. The city and the school took on a joint equity audit a few years ago suggesting that the city needs to find more ways to be inclusive and diverse for residents and visitors. Officials have been holding community meetings and sending out surveys to see what residents can come up with. So far, people have expressed a need for more community youth spaces advocating for a local grocery store, improving community safety, beautification projects, and more. “I do think that if we work together we could actually make siginificant progress on that. But if folks are waiting around for the city and the school to solve everything, they will be waiting a long time. But our hope through the survey we would get some ideas on how folks can work together,” said Elaine Wang, Winooski City Manager. The city plans to have more informational meetings about the topics people have come up with.
