Thursday was a sad day in the Nordic combined community, as USA Nordic Sport dropped Nordic combined athletes from funding.  The organization, based in Park City, focused on the development of Nordic combined and ski jumping athletes from across the country. Now, they’ll just support ski jumpers.  USA Nordic fell $150,000 short of a fundraising goal they needed to hit to continue their partnership with their Norwegian equal. The two were two years into a planned four year deal to share coaches, facilities and data.  Athletes said they were hurt by the news. One of USA Nordic’s goals when founded in 2007 was to help both of its sports survive.  The decision to cut off Nordic combined was predicated on TV and general revenue splits between the two sports. USA Nordic will continue to provide insurance for Nordic combined athletes.  Nordic combined athletes must now look for alternate funding sources. Nordic Combined USA Inc. is a nonprofit looking to revive the sport.  Parkite Billy Demong helped found the Nordic Combined USA. They have an upcoming fundraiser in Steamboat Springs next week.  It is crucial to the whole Nordic combined community that the U.S. remain involved in the sport, especially with the potential 2034 Salt Lake Games, he said.  Women’s Nordic combined has already been slashed from the 2026 Milano Cortina Games. The IOC will wait and see on whether to cut the men’s event for 2030, based on viewership and number of countries competing in 2026.
