(CNN) – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention announced this week anyone six months of age and older should receive one of the new COVID-19 vaccines when they become available this fall. Updated vaccines give targeted protection from a virus, and immunity from a previous shot or infection decreases over time. This new CDC recommendation comes as the United States faces a rise in cases of COVID-19 across most states. The CDC says most people who got the last COVID-19 vaccine had increased protection against hospital visits compared with people who had no shot. The Affordable Care Act requires insurers, including Medicare and Medicaid, to pay for vaccines recommended by the advisory committee at no cost to the patient. Copyright 2024 CNN Newsource.
