LAWRENCE (KSNT) - Former KU men's basketball player Johnny Furphy is getting his shot in the league. The Melbourne, Australia native was selected with the No. 35 overall pick in round two of the 2024 NBA draft by the Indiana Pacers. The pick came in a trade via the San Antonio Spurs. Furphy is the 88th all-time player to be drafted into the NBA out of KU. Jalen Wilson and Gradey Dick were selected for the Jayhawks the 2023. Since the league adopted the two-round draft in 1989, KU has now had 43 total draft picks. Furphy, listed at 6-foot-9 and 202 pounds on KU's website, earned a spot in the starting lineup midway through his lone season in Lawrence. As a true freshman, he averaged nine points and just under five rebounds while appearing in 33 games with 19 starts. Furphy was in the Barclays Center green room in New York for draft and was joined by KU head coach Bill Self.
