WILBRAHAM, Mass. (WWLP) - A family in Wilbraham is thanking their neighbor after they woke up to a knock on their front door earlier Thursday morning. Wood waste reused to insulate Springfield veteran’s home Just after 5:45 a.m., a fire occurred at a home on Lance Lane in Wilbraham. When firefighters got there, they noticed smoke coming from the garage. The family who lives at the home was able to exit safely, though the garage is a total loss. The homeowners told 22News the son's hoverboard was charging in the garage overnight and hope other families take caution. "If you are using a hoverboard, you know, charge it throughout the day, or you know, just kind of be vigilant. This things been charged... I don't know, countless times since last winter. It happened randomly today. They told me it's a common occurrence with lithium batteries and I've always heard stories but I never thought it would happen here," said Markez Cotto of Wilbraham. Firefighters say the official cause of the fire is still unknown and although the homeowners will need some time to repair the garage, they say they are just thankful their family is safe.
