(SOUTHERN COLORADO) — As June begins to wrap up, data continues to be collected on temperature and precipitation for the month. June is historically one of the wettest and warmest months of the year here in the Pikes Peak region. For Colorado Springs, June has largely underperformed. Totals, as of June 26, are well below normal for this time of year. Just over a half inch of precipitation has been reported so far with the normal being over two inches. Interestingly enough, half of the days in June have reported a trace or more of precipitation, but the amounts have been on the lower end. For Pueblo, the month has so far overperformed, even though less than half of the days have had reported precipitation. As of June 26, Pueblo is over half an inch of precipitation ahead of schedule. June 9 had the highest amount of precipitation for the month, so far, with nearly 90% of the precipitation falling on just that one day. Normal precipitation values are reported (above) for five different population centers in Southern Colorado. Typically the Springs sees most of the precipitation and Alamosa sees some of the lower numbers. La Junta and Pueblo are often on the higher end too with over an inch of preciptation expected for the month of June each year. As of June 26, Colorado Springs has seen the least amount of precipitation. The numbers being reported so far are significantly below average. Conversely, Pueblo, La Junta, Alamosa, and Canon City have had well above average precipitation reported for the month of June. Just a handful of days were below average for this time of year. June 19 saw a particularly sharp drop in temperatures with Colorado Springs not even getting out of the 50s for the day. Both Pueblo and the Springs were roughly 25 degrees below normal for late June.
