Strong storms expected in southern LA, MS late Thursday into early Friday

NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — Late Thursday evening through the overnight hours into early Friday, we're facing an "Enhanced Risk" for severe weather, according to the National Weather Service.
A system moving through Texas is forecast to arrive in our area late tonight. This system will bring strong upward motion, tapping into moist and highly unstable air in our region. Conditions will be ripe for severe weather, especially for areas north of the I-10/I-12 corridor.
The main threats in any strong or severe storms that develop are damaging straight-line winds, but we could also see large hail and isolated tornadoes. It's important to stay weather aware and have multiple ways to receive warnings, especially ones that will wake you up if you're asleep.
Storms are expected to enter the northern portions of our area around 11 p.m. Thursday and push eastward through 5 a.m. Friday morning. Some showers may linger through the rest of the morning, but the severe threat and the bulk of the heavy rain will be moving east out of the area.
Once the storms pass, we can expect improving conditions. Friday will be partly sunny with skies gradually clearing throughout the day. Temperatures will be warm, reaching the upper 80s, but it'll be less humid. Saturday will be sunny with highs in the lower 80s.
Looking ahead, the forecast remains active with multiple rounds of rain expected next week. It is still too early to pinpoint the timing and intensity of next week's wet weather, so check back for updates over the next few days.
