PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. (WCAX) - An exciting day for some North Country students who hope to find jobs that deal with aircraft painting-- they received their certifications Thursday afternoon.Employees of Beta Technologies and school officials from CV-TEC are celebrating seven students who are walking away with their aerospace coating application specialist, or ACAS certification.“These seven join five others only in the world that have earned this level of certification,” said Michele Friedman, the director of CV-TEC.It was a joyous day for the students, who have put in countless hours to earn the certification from Beta and CV-TEC.One of those who graduated from the program is Chazy Central student Payton McIntyre, the first female to receive a certificate.“This is very exciting, it is an amazing opportunity also,” McIntyre said.McIntyre says she already plans to use her certification for a potential job in Florida and says her favorite part of the course was learning how to apply her skills.“Probably just like learning how to paint and like I also think the products that we use, like the chemicals and stuff, like the science behind it is pretty cool,” McIntyre said.Other graduates, like Ausable Valley student Ethan Crowningshield, hope to work for Beta Technologies in Plattsburgh. Crowningshield says he never expected to be in the program.“I fell in love with it as soon as we started. It is just a passion for the program that we got into,” he said. This is the second year of Beta and CV-TEC’s program, which Clinton County Economic Development Director Molly Ryan says helps grow the workforce of tomorrow.“This is going to mean very good things not only for BETA Technologies because we are retaining our workforce right here,” Ryan said. But Morgan Knapton, an engineer with Beta and also one of the program’s lead instructors, says the piece of paper will allow them to go beyond the North Country.“These young folks can take this certification and take it anywhere in the world and make a great salary and travel and see the world and paint planes,” Knapton said. “So, I am really excited for them and it has been a real joy to teach them.”
