TOPEKA (KSNT) - A public meeting to discuss the future of a large park in the Capital City is coming up. Residents are invited to attend an open house meeting to discuss major upgrades to Gage Park, according to a news release from a Bartlett and West spokeswoman. Shawnee County Parks and Recreation, the Gage Park Improvement Authority and Bartlett and West want the public to learn about the upcoming project updating the 2023 Gage Park Master Plan. This meeting will also help those in charge of this project work to preserve the park in future developments. At the meeting, community members can visit information stations highlighting the projects goals, objectives, timelines and conditions and park analysis, according to the news release. The public is encouraged to share feedback on the information that's available, and share their priorities and preferences about Gage Park's future. Hy-Vee recalls products for possible salmonella contamination Because the park is such a staple to the Capital City, people attending the open house can submit historic pictures or storied about Gage Park. According to the news release, this is part of an initiative to create a public historic record for the park. Any pictures, documents or anecdotes that highlight the parks history and significance or any events. If you are interested in adding to the parks history, you can bring your own copies of the materials, or scan them at the open house. A team at the meeting will also be recording oral stories from the public who want to share their memories at Gage Park. The open house will be at 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 16 at the Big Gage Shelter House in Gage Park. For more local news, click here.
