Five men from Agawam, Springfield facing drug charges in Vermont

BURLINGTON, VT (WWLP) - Six men, including five from Agawam and Springfield, have been indicted by a federal grand jury for drug conspiracy charges in Vermont.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office in Vermont, the following people have been charged with conspiracy to distribute cocaine base and fentanyl:
Eddie Melendez, 30, of Feeding Hills
Reuben Melendez, 28, of Feeding Hills
Serafin Melendez, 53, of Feeding Hills
Mathew Ponce, 29, of Springfield
Giovanny Guzman, 23, of Springfield
Anthony Baker, 31 of Rutland, Vermont
All of the men, except Serafin Melendez, also face charges of distribution of a controlled substance or possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance.
Each of the six men has pleaded not guilty in their arraignments over the last two months. Serafin, Eddie, Reuben and Ponce were released pending trial while Baker and Guzman were ordered to be held until trial.
It is alleged that the group sold cocaine and fentanyl in Vermont between August 2023 and January 12, 2024. If found guilty, each of them faces up to 20 years in prison.
