SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV)- For two decades Savannah's own Matthew “Showbiz” Jackson made a name for himself as the "Clown Prince" of basketball with the legendary Harlem Globetrotters serving as one of the team's top showmen. This summer, he will be back in the area to host a basketball and life skills camp for kids called "Hoops for Hope". Jackson stopped by to talk to News 3 Kim Gusby about the upcoming program. Click the video box above to watch the interview. A Savannah native, graduate of Beach High School, and two-sport athlete, Jackson attended Savannah State University and spent three years in the military before starting his career as a Globetrotter. In 2019, Jackson was honored as a 'Globetrotters Legend', the team's highest distinction short of jersey retirement. He was also the second Savannahian to be inducted into the elite group. Jackson is currently in the middle of writing his second book, which is expected to be released next summer. Community celebrates Ahmaud Arbery’s 30th birthday Jackson says he is looking forward to this camp because he wants to pour back into the community that raised him and to give hope to upcoming generations. Hoops for Hope: Basketball and Life Skills Camp will take place at Effingham Middle School, June 24 through June 29. The camp is open for ages 8 through 18. Registration is now open. There are payment options available for parents who would like their children to attend but may not have the means. Click here for more information on the camp and registration.
