NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) -- An arrest has been made after a man was hurt in a shooting in Newport News on Wednesday, police said. The suspect is 18-year-old Eric Robert Brooks, of Newport News. Police say he was arrested hours after the shooting and charged with malicious wounding, eluding law enforcement and numerous weapons offenses. Eric Robert Brooks “This arrest was the culmination of outstanding detective work. Our investigators are to be commended for making a swift arrest in this case,” said NNPD Chief of Police Steve Drew. “I also want to thank the community members who came forward and the city’s investment in technology, which both played key roles in assisting this investigation.” Police say the officers responded around 1:10 p.m. Wednesday to reports of shots fired in the 3100 block of Roanoke Avenue, and found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to the hospital with non life-threatening injuries.
