ALLEN COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) - It's a bird, it's a plane... actually, it's a helicopter you may notice flying near power lines for Indiana Michigan Power (I&M). During the week of May 13, I&M workers are trimming trees near high-voltage transmission lines in Allen and DeKalb counties. The company is using aerial saws to get the job done. It's all part of routine maintenance to get rid of overhanging and encroaching branches that have the potential to interfere with reliable energy delivery, I&M explained in a release. Check out a video of the helicopter: The saw is suspended underneath the helicopter by a vertical boom and has multiple blades. Aerial trimming is more efficient than traditional trimming and can more easily reach off-road areas, according to the release. Weather permitting, the helicopter will fly between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. throughout the week. I&M is contracting with Roto Blade.
