ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Monroe County Judge Meredith Anne Vacca has been recommended to President Biden to serve on the Western District for NY Federal Court. Vacca was recommended by Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer. If confirmed, she would be the first woman of color and the first Asian-American to serve on the WDNY bench. Judge Vacca first worked as an Assistant District Attorney for Monroe County starting in 2007 She served in the Domestic Violence and Child Abuse Bureau. She later served as a Monroe County Judge and an Acting State Supreme Court Judge. Senator Chuck Schumer urged to recommend person of color to Western District of New York In 2020, she was elected to the Monroe County Court where she presides over criminal felony cases. She is the only Asian-American judge served on the bench in the seventh judicial district. "Raised in the Rochester area and educated at University of Buffalo, Ms. Vacca is highly qualified and represents the rich professional and demographic diversity of New York, Monroe County and the country, and when confirmed she will make history as the first Asian-American woman to serve as judge in the Western District of New York," Schumer said. "I am proud to recommend Rochester’s Meredith Vacca to serve on this federal bench.” Schumer says Judge Vacca, if confirmed, will bring legal knowledge, integrity, and expertise to the Western District Federal Branch.
