RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) - After a devastating fire over two years ago, construction and design progress is moving steadily ahead. Follow Monday night's school board meeting, officials shared positive news. With all the necessary city permits issued and approved last month, crews have been busy making significant progress inside the building. According to Richmond Public Schools (RPS) May 6 presentation: The City provided inspection approvals for areas of the sanitary rough-in on the basement level. Those concrete slab sections have been poured back. Additional slab plumbing inspections continue in other areas The electrical rough-in continues on the basement level and main floor. Plywood subfloor is being installed on the main floor. Ceiling framing has begun in the basement level and is ongoing. Materials are prepared for installation on the main floor. Over the next six months, Richmond Public Schools (RPS) expects to see these changes progress: The roof and structural framing of the building will be completed. Window installation will begin on the north side of the school. Mechanical and plumbing systems will be installed in the basement. Second District City Council Representative, Katherine Jordan, assures the community that RPS and the city are working hard to keep the construction on schedule. She also shared details about a fun community event: "Very excited that Fox has received all their permits from the city. Construction is ongoing. We're working on HVAC right now," said Jordan. If you want to support the Fox community, their Strawberry Street festival is May 11 from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Clark Springs Elementary School. William Fox students are taking classes in Clark Springs while they wait for the renovation to be completed. Richmond Public Schools still hopes to reopen the school to students in the fall of 2025.
