Texas facing a heat wave and two days of severe storms
May 08, 2024
HOUSTON (KIAH) – Temperatures are heading for the 100s in South and Southwest Texas. Meanwhile, in Houston, the humidity will make upper 80s almost feel like 100 for a couple of days.
The hottest temperatures, likely topping 105 in some areas, will be along the Rio Grande River. The National Weather Service is forecasting a high of 107 for Laredo Wednesday, then 109 on Thursday.
At the same time, Central and North Texas will be on the lookout for severe storms. Wednesday's severe weather outlook suggests it could be a third consecutive tornado outbreak day, centered around the Middle Mississippi River Valley region.
The severe risk shifts farther south, generally along and north of I-10, on Thursday. That's when a cold front moves in from the north with isolated strong storms Thursday and Thursday night.
