RICHMOND, Va. (WRIC) --Things will heat up today as we challenge the record high that was set back in 1936 of 92 degrees. We will see partly sunny skies, but things really start getting busy overnight as tomorrow is a VIPIR Alert Day. Once again there is some morning patchy fog across the region. This will burn off quickly after sunrise. Today we will see partly sunny skies which will allow temperatures to climb into the lower 90s. This afternoon and evening we have the risk of a few isolated storms, but there are no real triggers for the storms so I am only expecting a few at best. The SPC has the western half of our area under the low range for severe weather today, but this is mainly for the storms that will move in early Thursday morning as things really start to get busy. Thursday the low range risk shifts east and includes all of us. Thursday could either be really active over us or a bunch of nothing. Here is what needs to happen for us to see strong to severe storms tomorrow. #1. The rain that moves in overnight needs to move out early in the day -that’s fuel for the fire #2. The clouds needs to break and heat us up into the middle 80s –cooking it all up #3. Upper level energy needs to move in over us, along with some windshear –stirring the pot If we get all of those ingredients that will set the stage for what could be a busier afternoon and evening compared to what the weather models are showing right now. We will see how things play out, but right now it is best to stay updated the forecast and weather alert. Once the front moves out of here Thursday we will just see a few lingering showers on Friday. Things will also get a whole lot comfier Friday into Mother's Day weekend with the return of seasonable temperatures and lower humidity. Mother's Day is looking pretty nice, but we do have the risk of a few spotty showers across the area. A steadier rain moves in by the middle of next week.
