SANTA FE, N.M. (KRQE) – An upgraded computer dispatch system will help law enforcement better prioritize calls and respond in the field, the Department of Public Safety (DPS) says. "The ability to access a modern, secure, and enhanced computer-aided dispatch across the state is critical for our officers. This system boosts our ability to access critical data in real-time, ensure faster deployments, and share mission critical information with out partners across the state," New Mexico Department of Public Safety Secretary Jason R. Bowie said in a press release. "It means more time in the field and less time writing reports." New Mexico considering new system for dealing with mentally ill criminals The system allows State Police officers to get messages while in the field through multiple devices (radios, phones, and in cars). The system also has direct links to criminal history databases and geographic information systems, DPS says. "Our priority has always been the safety and security of the communities we serve. We are continuously exploring and implementing new technologies and software solutions to enhance our capabilities to complete that mission," State Police Chief W. Troy Weisler said in a press release. "These tools enable us to be more proactive, efficient, and responsible in our efforts to combat crime, ensure public safety, and protect our officers."
