COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) -- Two central Ohio women are joining a group of four other cancer survivors on a trek to climb the tallest mountain in Africa, all to raise awareness and show that life after, or with, cancer is worth living. This summer, Amanda Schwartz, of Lancaster, and Christy Heide, along with four cancer-killing counterparts, are traveling to Tanzania to take on Mount Kilimanjaro. Safety measures return to Short North on shooting anniversary Schwartz was diagnosed with ovarian cancer several years ago after doctors found a cantaloupe-size mass on one of her ovaries. She was in remission for six months before enduring a recurrence. Now, she’s set to receive her 72nd chemo treatment on Tuesday. Through this journey against cancer, she's learned a lot about herself and made some new friends along the way. "I didn't leave the house other than chemo and and church when I felt good,” Schwartz said. “One huge thing I took out of this whole journey. You know, life continues and it's going to pass you by." “We’re trying to build awareness, raise funds, and show there is hope that you can live your life to the fullest, even with a cancer diagnosis.” Schwarts has started checking items off of her bucket list, starting with a 5K in February. She is joining Team Teal of the National Ovarian Cancer Coalition from July 9-15 to climb Kilimanjaro, checking another item off of her list.
