NEW ORLEANS (WGNO) — After a warm and muggy day across the Gulf Coast, temperatures are forecast to stay warm overnight. Expect low to mid 70s for most of the evening under partly to mostly cloudy skies. By sunrise, temperatures will likely drop into the mid to upper 60s for the northern half of the area. Locations south of Lake Pontchartrain will be slightly warmer in the low 70s. Sunday's forecast looks pretty similar to today. Expect partly sunny skies with a slight chance of showers and isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon. Temperatures will likely top out in the mid to upper 80s, which is a few degrees above normal for early May. Any rain in the area tomorrow should begin to dissipate shortly after sunset as we lose daytime heating. As we move into Monday, we'll still have the possibility for some isolated showers and storms with rain chances at around 30 percent. As we head through the week, temperatures are expected to climb into the upper 80s, possibly even breaking some records for this time of year. Be prepared for some early summer heat, with heat indices making it feel like the mid-90s to 100 degrees by midweek.
