VERSAILLES, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – Eckert’s orchard is finally open for the season and is kicking it off with a Pick-Your-Own-Strawberries event. The event began at nine a.m. on Saturday. Guests could head to the strawberry fields to pick the fresh fruit. Farm manager Megan fields says this year they have an abundance of strawberries “We have strawberries in the store and we opened pick your own this week as well,” said Fields. “Everybody’s coming out to pick your own strawberries and there is a ton of them out there for sure. It has been really busy here and we never know if it’s going to be really busy because of Derby day or not. But it’s been an incredible day getting to see folks that we haven’t seen all winter.” The event wrapped up at 5 p.m. The next event at Eckert’s will be Breakfast and Berries next Saturday, the 11th.
