The National Weather Service forecast for the greater San Francisco Bay Area for Saturday called for a cold front with rain, and also issued other alerts for the region. Daytime highs will be mostly in the 50s in the Bay Area. Overnight lows will be in the low 40s on the coast, in the mid-40s around the bay and inland. The NWS issued a special weather statement — covering much of San Francisco, the Peninsula, the South Bay, the East Bay as well as areas toward Santa Cruz — due to wind gusts possibly reaching up to 40 mph. It warned those gusts “could knock down tree limbs and blow around unsecured objects.” Anyone outdoors in impacted areas were advised to seek shelter inside. The statement will be in effect through 10:30 a.m. Saturday. It later extended the statement through 11:30 a.m. for parts of the South Bay, including San Jose, Sunnyvale and Santa Clara. The NWS also issued a flood advisory for regions including San Francisco and northwestern San Mateo counties, northwestern Alameda and southwestern Contra Costa counties, and also parts of Santa Clara County. It warned that ponding was already happening or would soon be happening, including some minor flooding in low-lying places and areas with poor drainage. The NWS reminded drivers to not drive through flooded roads, noting that most flood deaths happen in vehicles. The flood warning is expected to be in effect in San Francisco and San Mateo counties through 12:45 p.m. and through 1 p.m. in Alameda and Contra Costa counties. The flood advisory in Santa Clara County is expected to continue through 2:30 p.m. A gradual warming trend will begin on Monday, and sunny skies are expected next week.
