OCEANSIDE, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) -- A suspect has been taken into custody in connection to a hit-and-run collision that left a woman dead in Oceanside back in March. As explained by the Oceanside Police Department, the victim, now identified as 51-year-old Tracey Gross, was critically injured after being struck by a vehicle near the intersection of State Route 76 and Singh Way on Sunday, March 17.  Bodies of three missing surfers found, Baja California authorities say Officers found a bicycle with major damage about two miles down the road from where the pedestrian was found. Gross later passed away while receiving medical treatment for her injuries, police said. The driver of the vehicle involved in the collision reportedly fled the scene. OPD had described the car as a silver 2013–2015 Kia Optima.  In an update released Friday, the department said its Major Accident Investigation Team took Christian Howard, a 26-year-old Riverside resident, into custody around 9 a.m. Howard has been charged on suspicion of gross vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run resulting in death. FOX 5/KUSI’s reporting partners at The San Diego Union-Tribune reported that Gross was a mother of two adult children and worked as a postal carrier for 10 years.
