ROCHESTER, N.Y. (WROC) — Protesters reentered Wallis Hall at the University of Rochester Friday, two days after a brief sit-in at the same location came to a peaceful end. According to the university, a group entered the building around 4:00 p.m. Friday and left around 6:45 p.m. Wilson Boulevard was briefly closed to traffic. According to the university, student protest leaders made "absolutely false claims" about an emergency Board of Trustees meeting they claimed took place Thursday. "There was no such meeting and no such vote, and University officials will not continue to battle this misinformation publicly and moving forward are addressing this situation internally," the university said in a statement Friday evening. During the previous sit-in, protestors demanded the university call for a cease-fire in Gaza and academic divestment from Israel. They left the building around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, after conversations between protest leaders and university administrators. The university said none of the protestors involved would be disciplined for Wednesday's sit-in. University President Sarah Mangelsdorf said students would be able to explain their call for academic divestment at next week's faculty meeting. It is not clear whether Friday's demonstration would impact those promises.
