EWING TWP. — Because of the windy and somewhat chilly weather, the scoring was up at Friday’s Mercer County Boys Golf Championships at the Mountain View Golf Course. While the conditions were not ideal, the day couldn’t have worked out any better for Lawrenceville Prep as it swept both the team and individual titles. Lawrenceville captured its second Mercer County team title in three years by posting a 312. Hun and defending-champion Princeton were next at 317 while Pennington was fourth with a 322. Peddie and Notre Dame were fifth with 328s. The individual title went to Lawrenceville’s Adrian Jordan. A resident of Lawrence Township, Jordan was the only one to shoot par with a 72. Hun’s Mike Deussing was second with a 75 and Pennington’s Matthew Sanderson was third on a match of cards with a 76. Four other golfers shot 77. Notre Dame’s Oscar Solares was awarded the fourth spot on a match of cards, while Hopewell Valley’s Megan Meng was fifth on a match of cards. Meng, who won the Mercer County Girls Championship the day before, was the defending champion of the boys tournament. Last year she played from the women’s tees. This year she was moved back to the men’s tees, but still had a very respectable finish in her senior season. One of Lawrencville’s co-captains along with Jimmy Decillo, Jordan was able to finish first by getting hot down the stretch. This included birdies on the 14th, 16th and 17th holes. “This feels great,” said Jordan, who will play in college next year at Division 3 Kenyon. “I think I was four over through 12, but I found my swing on the last six holes and I was very happy with the way I finished. I just needed to stay patient. It was a great way to close out my high school career. I mean it is my last high school season ever.” Actually, Jordan and his teammates still have the Prep States coming up at Peddie. What made Friday’s Mercer County Tourney triumph even sweeter is Lawrenceville was able to ease the frustration of finishing one stroke behind first-place Hun at the MAPL Championships earlier in the week at Blair. “We were all hungry for a win,” said Jordan. “We had been playing well, but just hadn’t caught a break. I’m very happy for our entire team.”
