EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) - This week's Sound Check on 9 featured a local rapper and hip-hop artist, David the Scholar, who found his inspiration to pursue music after his mother passed away while he was in high school. David Blue, who goes by his artist name David the Scholar, mixes rap and hip-hop with more melodic sounds that blend into his music that talks about his experiences. His songs not only touch on the fun parts of life, but also raise awareness on mental health. "I really wanted to speak to a lot of different people out there who have gone through suicide. Whether or not they did try it or they did not go through or even the ones that sadly did go through with it," he said about his song "Mean't For". "I try to write about stuff that either relates to people or is able to really just make them feel like they're not alone," he added. He will be releasing two music videos and a song with an independent label Anxotic Music Group and is also working on more songs that he is expecting to release sometime this summer under a title, but is not ready to reveal just yet. You can find his music on all music streaming platforms and follow him for his latest releases and performances on Instagram.
