BATON ROUGE, La. (BRPROUD) - Organizers for the City of St. George met on Monday, April 29 to lay out new services they say could help the city. Some loved the ideas. Others raised questions about the city's future changes. School redistricting was one of the main concerns. After a Louisiana Supreme Court ruling approved the incorporation, some justices released their opinion and mentioned organizers looking forward to creating their school district. Malika Wyche said she's only been living in St. George for a few short years. She said her kids attend Blue Ribbon charter schools in the area. She fears that their educational plans may soon change. "We don't want to be forced to move our children out of the district because of the formation of St George the city and subsequently the school system," said Wyche. What you need to know about St. George: New Louisiana city will be in East Baton Rouge Parish Many city organizers said the discussion of redistricting schools will come later. But Councilman Dwight Hudson of District 9 said creating the city and school district should go together. "I think immediately, as soon as possible, we have got to start working on a new school district for the St. George area," said Hudson. Many questions are being asked about the future. Organizers said now is the time to start the groundwork. "Today is the last time we talk about the process leading up to St. George. We're moving forward," said Andrew Murrell, the lawyer for the St. George incorporators. To know more about the transition agenda and upcoming meetings for the city, click here.
