KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The Kansas City Police Department confirmed that a woman has died after a shooting near a Quality Hill elementary school on Monday morning. According to police, reports of a fatal shooting at 11th and Washington Street in downtown Kansas City came through around 8:30 a.m. 1 dead, 1 seriously injured after I-35 head-on crash with semi in KCK On arrival, officers were taken to an unresponsive woman found in the street near a car. According to a news release, police called EMS and aided the victim until they arrived. EMS pronounced the woman dead at the scene. KCPD said they detained a woman labeled as a 'subject of interest' at the scene for further investigations. The shooting was near the Crossroads Academy - Quality Hill, and according to police, the school was placed on lockdown as a preventive measure. However, the school and the surrounding area are not believed to be under an active threat. They said the interaction ended up escalating into a deadly shooting where the victim was struck.
