Sunday felt more like early June across Central Indiana with the observed high temperatures. Dominating high pressure to our south and east kept any rain and cool air west. But that won't be the case for much longer. That high-pressure center will continue sliding east and so will a slow-moving cold front. This, in time will make this an active workweek to end April and open May! April for #Indianapolis averages two days of 80°+ high temps. Today produced the 4th such day this month making it feel like early June. Shelbyville on top with a high of 86°! Today was the warmest April 28th in 43 years for the Circle City. #INwx @FOX59 pic.twitter.com/Hg8JkGFv5x— Ethan Rosuck (@EthanRosuckWX) April 28, 2024 I want to emphasize that while rain chances rise for Monday, it will have plenty of dry time throughout the day. This frontal boundary is slow-moving and will cool us down slightly for a couple of days to end April. However, most of our temperatures will still be a touch on the mild side. Thanks to more widespread clouds, temperatures will be down compared to Sunday with forecast highs in the 70s. Peak rainfall coverage throughout Central Indiana later Monday morning and through the evening will be around 60-70%. Severe weather is not expected but heavy downpours at times are possible. Rain will end overnight Monday with a stray shower possible into very early Tuesday. Otherwise, the "break" from the week's rainfall will be Tuesday and Wednesday. We'll quickly warm temperatures back up into the lower 80s for May's opening days on Wednesday and Thursday. The second half of the workweek also calls for more active weather but it's too early to talk exact specifics. Not only will April likely finish as one of the wettest on record, May will likely start off on a wet note, too. Rain chances go up later Thursday and Friday with temperatures closer to normal in time for next weekend.
