Big Island experiences increase in earthquakes, but it's not Kīlauea

HONOLULU (KHON2) -- According to the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park social media, the Big Island is seeing a sharp increase in earthquakes below the Upper East Rift Zone and Kīlauea summit.

Officials confirmed that Kīlauea is not erupting, but due to the strong seismic activity, some temporary closures were put in place.
Reports said Hilina Pali Rd. will be closed from Chain Craters Rd. A temporary overnight closure of the coastal backcountry including Nāpau and Pepeiao Cabin will also be implemented.
